Not sure what happened, but I call it a study… Considering I had no reference for this I like the mood. The composition unfortunately sucks. The lower half/third works better on its own…?!

All refs taken from Alien (1979)… more studies to come. This is fun!

Edit: I added a couple of last minute fixes: usually I dont fix my mistakes even when I see them. Thats a bad habit and I’ll try to polish all studies more from now on or at least dont be so sloppy about it.

20 minutes, 20 gesture scribbles

…aproximately 6 minutes each…

I was about to start with 30 second gestures but from my experience I’m too slow for that so I started with 20 x 60sec poses. After that I started three 6 minute gestures. I wish the three last ones were 60 second sketches. Seems possible to me…

Sometimes I want to share silly stuff like photos or doodles… or photodoodles, so I’m now ready to post on the go via my mobile! You gotta love the digital age… 

… sad moments are everywhere… Fortunately the mana machine is just around the corner! 

You know how it is: Whenever you think it cannot get any worse you prove yourself wrong with the next thing you draw… well, I really need to warm up with 60sec sketches first. Otherwise what’s supposed to be simple, quick studies takes ages. It’s also interesting for me to notice how much I’m attracted to:
a) women (please note I picked a MALE this time), and
b) shading instead of linework. I’m constantly thinking of adjusting the brush diameter and GET ReAL mEsSy!!!… luv’ it!

Fun with value and composition felt like the right thing to do today… I really enjoy the use of 100% black and white which I usually try to avoid. I need to work on more simple/graphical compositions with interesting shapes and overall balance.

Study 7 was due on monday and supposed to be at least ten gestures but I simply wasn’t in the mood. I need to speed up the initial sketch and focus almost exlusively on proportions and angles…

I’ll try to combine study 8 and 9 tomorrow. Material + Light, yaaaay!

Okay, now this session was pain- and helpful at the same time. I noticed that I’m starting to feel and understand the form better with each drawing (foto ref.). Unfortunately “warming up” like this already takes about 40-60 minutes =X…

Next time I’ll go with 10-15 quick sketches before I start…
